Five Pound Pocket Universe

Five Pound Pocket Universe is a Jazzcore project founded in 2016 by Swiss musicians Michel Barengo (composition, drums), Andi Bissig (tenor sax, samples, effects) and Valentin Baumgartner (guitar, prepared guitar, effects). The band has worked together with guest musicians such as Mitsuru Nasuno (e-bass), Tatsuya Yoshida, Natsuki Kido (guitar) and Sou Inomoto (electronics) from Tokyo Japan for their live performances.
5PPU's music oscillates between rapidly changing moods of pre-arranged sequences and improvised sections building up to towering walls of sound. At times like zapping through TV stations, a constant, slightly disturbing mood acts as a gravitational force on the individual segments, keeping them together.

The band absorbs elements from jazz, grindcore, metal, game music and other genres.

Five Pound Pocket Universeは2016年に結成されたジャズコアプロジェクト。メンバーはMichel Barengo (作曲、ドラム)、Andi Bissig (テナーサックス、サンプル、エフェクト) 、Valentin Baumgartner (ギター、プリペアードギター、エフェクト）の３人であるが、ライブツアーに於いては他のプレイヤーが加わることもあり、これまでにMitsuru Nasuno (Eベース）、Tatsuya Yoshida（ドラム）、Natsuki Kido (ギター）、Sou Inomoto (エレクトロニクス）が参加している。
既存のシークエンスをベースに、予測不能なインプロビゼーションを織り交ぜたコンポジションを展開し、テレビチャンネルをザッピングしているかの様な楽曲 を奏でる。各奏者が放つ一見自由奔放な音は、楽曲から漂う緊張感により統一感を感じさせる。ジャズ、グラインドコア、メタル、ゲーム音楽等の要素を取り入 れた楽曲を展開するユニットである。
